1957 Chevy 210

Recommended Posts

This was a frame off restoration that I got to tint last weekend. Its a 1957 Chevy 210, its like the belair, but its a two door post....Put 20% on the sides and 5% on the back glass. I'll get some pics of the backglass up whenever I get the roll of film developed!

I forgot to add that all the glass on these old schools cars is laminated safety glass...Kinda cool if you get a chance to do one...the original glass in the car was so thick you might think it could stop a bullet....anyways here are my tips for tinting a 57 Chevy210/Belair

1. The glass is laminated so when using heat caution should always be used.....Do small sections at a time when wet shrinking the back glass. Move around to keep the heat down or just step away and let it cool...

2. The rear quarter windows are funny. The back edge of the glass is on a hindge so only the front of the window rolls down. Kinda cool to see a different way of engineering a roll up...anyways cutting the window on the outside is just a pain and really a waste or time..Remove the inner metal trim panel on the inside. and cut you film on the inside...You should be able to get a really amazing fit if you do it this way...

*Inner Metal trim panel removal*

There will be several screws holding it in place and one long screw tucked in beside the top of the seat....After removing the screws you will need to gently remove it from the car...

3. Pie cut the inside of the backglass gasket, and trim your pattern about a 1/8th of a inch short all the way around....Tint it and use a paint pen to make a nice border around your freshly tinted glass...

if the car wasnt a complete frame off restoration I would have just removed the backglass.. and tinted it that way..

peace
