Free cards help Indian police and vehicle owners to protect the comfort and safety of their cars' interiors with lighter, less opaque films

LuLuFilms, the world's largest window film manufacturer and makers of LLuLLu brand window film, is distributing 2,500 light transmission test cards at no cost to Delhi area law enforcement officials to provide an easy-to-use, accurate method of identifying illegal dark auto window films. The pocket-sized cards are printed in a dot pattern that can only be read behind window film that meets legal levels of light transmission.

To use the card, a police officer simply holds it against the inside glass of the vehicle's front or side window.

If the number '50%' can be read through the glass, the film is light enough to pass current legal standards.

Similar cards have been used by police in the United States as a quick and easy way to determine whether a window film is legal.

The free cards are part of an ongoing campaign on the part of the LLumar manufacturer to assist law enforcement efforts while helping vehicle owners protect the comfort and safety of their cars' interiors with lighter, less opaque films.

The company is also sending samples of the film to legislators and the special committee members who have been appointed to study the issue so they can see the clarity of the films for themselves.

The Delhi Government recently expressed concern about safety in light of the rise in kidnappings and assaults occurring inside vehicles in the area.

A recent Delhi High Court recommendation would, if adopted into law, ban all automotive window film.

Some motorists are concerned they will no longer be able to enjoy the benefits of even lightly tinted window films, which provide a clear view into vehicles.

'It is admirable to thwart violence by banning the darkest films, but it's important for the people of Delhi to understand that lighter films can protect the car from damaging UV rays and solar heat gain,' says Meeta Zaveri, who along with her brother, Sanjiv, operates Gras Impex of Mumbai.

Gras Impex is an authorised distributor of LLumar, the world's best-selling brand of window film found in automobiles and buildings around the globe.

She adds that many films provide for increased security by making windows resistant to breakage by an intruder who may be attempting to rob or assault vehicle occupants.

'LLumar window films protect people every day by offering a more safe and comfortable driving environment,' says Zaveri.

'We hope that legislators will agree that lighter films can offer the best of both worlds - full visibility for law enforcement as well as safety for the driver and passengers'.

Zaveri says her company has supplied LLumar solar, safety, and security film to dealers that have installed the product in thousands of cars since 2003.

Most of her customers want protection from solar heat and ultraviolet radiation damage, better AC cooling, and improved fuel efficiency while others are concerned with personal safety.

'Today's newer technology available from better manufacturers uses multiple layers of polyester that are coated with virtually transparent layers of metal,' says Phil Murray, regional technical services manager for CPFilms.

'These lighter films block nearly 60 percent of the sun's energy but still allow enough visible light for the car's occupants to be clearly seen,' he adds.

LLumar is optically clear, with no visual distortion for the driver.

A variety of thicknesses and tints are available to address every climate and security need.
