How many companies warranties cover seal failure???

This window company who I'm trying to work with said that if I put anything on the window like film this voids any and all warranties, BUT, if my warranty takes over 100% they'll work with me...

Went to a network meeting last night.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!

Just about everyone offers a "replacement" warranty that takes over from the window MFGRs voided warranty. For example, BSF (SolarGard) warranty covers a 2 year period from the date of installation for glass breakage, and seal failure (MUST be approved) only IF there was a MFGRs warranty in effect at the time of installation. In NO case, will it extend the MFGRs coverage or warranty. If there is only a year left on the MFGRs warranty, then they get whats left on it. This is a LIMITED warranty.

So.... If you do a new house with new windows that have, lets say, a 10 year warranty, the custy now has a 2 year LIMITED warranty. However, if the house is not new and the windows are out of warranty, no harm, no foul. This is better than nothing, but still a negative should the custy put 2 and 2 together. You now have to justify why the custy should buy film and accept a reduced warranty on thier glass. :krazy :krazy

All the major brands take over the seal failure warranty for a limited time. Some companies offer warranty upgrades at a few cents per square foot to carry on the seal failure and glass breakage warranty even further. (residential only)

It all depends on what brand(s) you are using, and their policies.

Also, consider inspecting or doing a little snooping around about the quality of this company's windows before you go into some agreement to avoid further headaches...

Yeah this is basically what sucks... I had a perfect opportunity, so I thought as its all NEW windows. Except what you just described. I just spoke with LLumar and basically DR and a few others is 5 yrs limited to the existing MFR WARRANTY and most other series LULU films is 2yrs for glass breakage and seal.

LLUMAR told me that the IWFA did an independent study and found that in no way does adding film affect the seals. But the window co. don't agree..

Ohh well, I still may get some leads from it, you never know... :dunno :krazy :dunno

Glass manufacturers expect at least a 1% failure rate.

Read the window film warranties for your glass and seal warranties. I do not know of any that will warranty seal failure for windows out of warranty. Why warranty something that the window manufacturers do not warranty?

I have read it and I completely understand now how it works. I posted this early before I could talk to any one on the phone because I thought it would make a good topic.

I agree fully with the film Co and would not warranty a product for 10 years if it only has a 1 yr warranty. But I almost, and still might have a good opportunity with the installer for future work.

So many sales persons overlook this important point. In addition some film MFG's will match a Glass MFG warranty term for term but again, there are stipulations that must be met. Good post key. :dunno

Most major glass manufacturer warranties (Andersen, Pella, etc) will be also voided when window treatments are applied less than a certain distance from the glass. This includes fabric curtains, plastic/wood shades. But that's somehow never mentioned.

The window film industry must be the devil... Oh yes we are...

Also, a lot of builders (big and small) conveniently fail to mention to the home owners that they actually never filed the warranty with the glass manufacturer... Instead, the home owners are given a blanket sample warranty sheet with no name or address stamped on it. So all the while they are arguing with window film installers about their window warranty being voided due to window film, they don't even have any warranty on their windows...

This occurs quite a lot especially in large developments built by KB Homes, Toll Brothers, Lara Homes,...
