Felting question fo the pros

Recommended Posts

When you guys felt thes cars, there is an upper lup and a lower lip on the gasket.

Are you felting the upper, lower or both. I'm having an issue with one right now and want to compare procedure, thanks. Also what is your prep procedure..mine is just scuffing the gasket with sandparer, then alcohol clean, stick on felt.

I do each sweep seperate. I sand with some ruff paper, usually 80 to 100 grit. Then wipe down with denatured alcohol. This has worked well for me. I started out just covering both sweeps with one piece, but had two come loose. Changed to the new way, and no problems since for me. Also, on warm days, I felt them first and set outside in the sun to heat the adhesive. :lol

Tw I also use a 1" piece and cover both upper and lower,I also sand a clean with alcohol but I like to warm the seal with heat from a heat lamp or the sun I feel the felt sticks better to a hot surface :lol

First time using the new Axcess film ..between that upsell and pulling the 1/4 windows and felting the gaskets..it's costing a bit :lol

Probably a lot of people are going to scream, but we just off the lower lip, it does NOTHING anyway :lol

I won't scream at ya , but will tell you a story of an experienced tinter I personally know that did that but no longer because a few customers have complained about "wind whistle" after the tint and he had to get the gaskets replaced . Many cars he's done without issue..but not 100%

Had an 07 Accord this weekend that had Axcess installed. Felted the gaskets. He did have a $20 coupon from Citysearch.com, but it came out nicely.

Although, I didn't charge for removing the 1/4's... Since I already had to pull the door panels, I just yanked the 1/4's and tinted them as part of the vehicle. I've never thought about charging extra for that...
