Vinyl the matrix Better

:thumb not sure if this somewhere on this forum already but when you vinyl the matrix on some vehicles and for those that do use vinyl, I realize many use glue and I just use a lil plain water to flush the top of film before install but still. For those that do vinyl I suggest you apply the vinyl to the matrix first and then place the full sheet of tint over that. This way there is no "splice" between vinyl and film that the customer can peel more and more everytime they wash the back glass. From the exterior the vinyl looks good on the matrix and from the inside its as if the entire window is tinted for a smooth look and easy cleaning :beer

I always put the vinyl on after the tint (when I do vinyl that is...which is rare). the first time I tried vinyl...I put it on first and didnt like the line it left when the tint went over it. :beer and I seems to me (it was years ago I did it, so im not possitive) that the tint didnt stick as well to the vinyl. :thumb vinyl after the tint leaves a line hardly noticeable.

vinyl after the tint? kind of ruins the point of putting on vinyl for a clean look on the matrix from the exterior. I can see the vinyl after the tint helping the view from the inside but that doesnt help the look of the matrix form the outside if the vinyl goes on after the tint :lol2 if you mean you splice the tint off the matrix and the vinyl the top then thats what I used to do...but rather than splice off the film (which can be a pain in itself) put the vinyl to matrix and then tint covering that for a smooth inside finish :dunno

I don't know anyone that would put tint on the full window if they are doing vinyl on the dots. I don't do vinyl, but there will be a small pucker line where the tint goes over the vinyl or the vinyl goes over the tint.

"Vinyl after the tint" means that there is no tint covering the dots. The film is less flexible than the vinyl, so there is a bigger line when the tint covers the vinyl. If you tint up to the dots or go into the dots a little, then apply vinyl, there is little or no line where the film ends. If there is a line, let it bake outside a little and press it out.

I don't splice the film like you would a 2-piece back window. I overlap a little. For instance, I usually tint up to the 3rd or 5th row of dots (don't ask why I never go the 2nd, 4th, or 6th, it's an OCD thing). The vinyl will start at the 1st row of dots and go all the way up.

:DD I reckon ya'll aint gettin it...I dont know what your saying...I wouldnt be putting it in here if I hadn't done it a few times and there's no more "pucker" or line with the film going all the way than just to the vinyl...I dont even know what im saying now...next time I will have pix so you get it. the point is that the customer can clean their back window worry free because the whole thing is smooth. maybe you cut in a different place but there is no visible line where vinyl meets tint :DD maybe im just super cool like that..maybe its the heatgun and me smoothing it out. reading back to what you just wrote your saying to "bake out" any line the way you do it..the same can be done this way if necessary and you get a clean inside one piece

:DD how are you not gettin it? you tint the back glass....cut the tint off the dots then vinyl over the top of the tint (cover about an 1/8 or so) and cover the matrix. not that difficult of a concept. the idea is that the vinyl is more flexible than the tint...so it conforms to the splice line much better than tint over vinyl. with vinyl over tint...no pucker line...but visa versa...yeah..ive had pucker....thats why I put the tint down first now and vinyl over it.

What brand of vinyl do some of you recommend? I have never used vinyl but there are some cars where I see how the vinyl would be suitable for sure. Chevy Cavaliers have a nasty matrix, I have one and would like to try my first attempt on that.

Holla!

:shock:shock Didnt I just say your the one not getting it...repeating me and yourself wont get your back glass better. your stuck doing it your way so leave it...just cause you dont get it dont knock it. like I said no "pucker" in the film the way I cut it and NO vinyl edge in the inside like yor application to eventually peel.

hey filmblazer...I used to use just regular sign vinyl but we've gotten some stuff straight from our 3M manufacturer which is a premium vinyl (thinner) to form around the matrix better and lay smoother with NO "pucker"!...anyway. its got a clear backing and works great...try your manuf or go with premium sign vinyl :thumb
