shrinking large fingers

Recommended Posts

I shrink all my side windows, sooo basically on a few windwos there are fairly large fingers, whats the best way of shrinking them down without creasing the finger half way down. all ive been doing is throw some heat over half of the finger smooth half on if then heat some more and smooth. but sometimes cause creasing this way.... should I be throwing heat over the while finger then smooth...or how would you deal with it.?

For the really big ones I split them down the center into two. Make sure theres a lot of water under it and try to part it down the center with your finger into two fingers.... If it's still large after that I repeat until it's small enough you can shrink it on it's own. I never get creases that way :twocents Good luck!

I do the split too, but I try to get all the water out that I can before shrinking the finger. I find that it's much more predictable and shrinks more uniformly. usually on big fingers I shrink the top half, re-split the remaining finger, then shrink the two.

On cars with really crazy shrinking, I've actually done a soap or powder shrink on the door glass. I'm referring to cars like 3000gt/Stealth

I used to too. Now I'm trying to get away from doing a lot of heat work on the side glass. It's working out a lot better and quicker too.

only problem is that I'll get the occasional small finger to pop up on the inside of the window, but those are easy to take a little heat and a hardcard to.

heating on the outside helps the tint fit to the glass on the inside with a much lower chance of fingers poppin' up. Which reduces contamination, any chance I get to work with the tint while the liner is still on so I cant get it dirty I will take that oppertunity.

what I do for the really hard ones like the beetle, or stealth is after cutting the film out, I'll re-lay the film on the outside with a small gap at the bottom and the long edge (rear edge for a front door, and front edge for a rear door) but when I squeegee after laying the film I squeegee in the center and move half of the fingers to the top and half to the bottom (think back glass)

after this, I'll shrink the bottom completely untilit lays flat. then I'll pick it up again, re wet and re-lay the film, this time tacking it down horizontally a bit higher thereby moving some more of the fingers to the bottom, and so on and so on. usually I can get them done with 2 shots but sometimes I need 3. this is the most effective way to keep the fingers manageable without damaging the film.

:uh hope this helps.

TOTW anyone??? :thumb:uh
