I have a Mobile Tint business. I do Automotive,Residential and Commercial. I have a few questions for all. I would like to know what vehicles people are using? Have you raised your prices, do to gas prices going up? If so, what are your regular customer's responses? What do you do for advertisement? What advertisement is most cost effective? When doing flat glass what is your minimum square foot rule. :tantrum

Answers:

1) Olds Bravada (Blazer) & trailer if needed.

2) People will pay more for the convenience of mobile work.

3) They bitch.

4) My truck is a rolling billboard, and a sign out front, and WOM.

5) WOM is the most powerful, cost effective form of advertising.

6) I have a 125.00 minimum to leave the house, within a certain radius. Outside that radius, it goes up.

Also, due to the gas prices, I no longer give free estimates to anyone over 25 miles from my shop. I charge about 40.00 which is applicable to the job should the custy decide to use me.

Most of my mobile work can be done with this:

It's only if I need to take my filmhandler do I bother with my truck.

Best $500 I ever spent.

I can fit a lot of tint in the back of it, all my tools, little giant knock-off from walmart, 60"/72" boxes in the front seat if I lay it down (and I buckle it in to prevent it from sliding during my hard cornering).

Here's when I was packed for bear to do a rip and redo on a truck for a detail shop (the SR coating had failed, but I since it was so purple I doubt they caused it.....maybe the last straw though). I had no clue what the VLT was.....so I took them all:

You have to stay with the times when it comes to adjusting your prices. Your film cost has gone up (no matter which brand) by approximately 5%-10% over the past couple years. So that should reflect in your price. Also, consider, when you call in a plumber, they have a minimum. Where I lay my hat, upon calling the plumber, they charge $120 just to take a peak at what the problem is. Price yourself as the "professional" you are. Have a set minimum for each of your product offerings, according to what you think is sufficient to cover your time and effort. And of course keep in mind what your region is going to accept as minimum pricing.

Your self-presentation is your best advertising. It immediately creates a positive buzz.

Drive in anything but a "beater". (I'm not saying drive a $60K car. But make sure your vehicle is in good shape.) The better you present your image, the more your client will respect you. You are selling an image along with your superior work and superior products. If you roll into your client's house wearing the same dirty ripped jeans you've been wearing since you finished high school, and your vehicle looks unprofessional, your client is going to treat you poorly... And will tell all their network about the poor customer service. People are more likely to share a negative customer service experience than they would be to share a positive one. So give them every chance to create a positive buzz about you...
