Hello all,

I'm a line-X dealer in Ohio and we get 4-5 calls a week asking if we do tint because there is no one anywhere near us that does it, so we decided to get our feet wet. I know that this is an area that if you assume you can just do it, it's going to bite u in the a$$ and I don't want that to happen. Could any of you professionals please give me a list of what shop items that you know are frequently used the most? We're using llumar and they provide training but with anything I know u guys know more than any trainer does.

Also, I guess if you could give us some info on how best to practice? Really, what it comes down too is we don't know a hell of a lot about this and don't want to F it up. Whatever advice you folks can give to a new shop would be extremelllllly appreciated.

Thank u all!! :shock

Probably better to get trained up first because every car is different and your right it aint as easy as it looks. Whether you get trained from your supplier or someone else it doesn't matter. At least with your distributor you'll be using the same film as you are in the shop. Make sure you get your skills down first before you start advertising and charging because you only get a first impression once! :shock

If you want the honest truth tinting is a hell of alot harder to do than spray in liners, you can get trained but it will take a good couple of years practice before you can get to do almost anycar Oh and don't let anyone talk you in to buying computer cut ,trimming the film is the easiest part of tinting.your best bet is to hire a tinter after a couple years of pratice you can let him go and do it yourself if you get good enough. :shock

:spit on both! I was thrown in way too soon(frickin Zshart, anything to save a buck!). I had 5 years flat glass experience, but they only gave me 2wks under a seasoned auto guy before they sent me off! I got sick of that place in a hurry and went back to my old company-they expanded to auto-with the understanding that it was going to be slow going. Well about a year ofter that move and I still get pizzed as hell, frustrated, and at times ready to quit, all because of inadequite training! But stick with this site and take the advice of the pros on here and that will go a long way. good luck! :?

you definately dont want to get your start on customer vehicles...unless you charge em a 99$ special :lol6 why dont you try and find an experienced tinter to hire or train one of your guys to specifically tint windows, hiring a tinter that already knows the business will allow you to take advantage of those 4-5 customers a week right away...since you guys know nothing about tinting right now I hope your not expecting to make money right away. do the industry a service and get some training first. this site is good reference but your going to run through quite a few cars and rolls of film before you can plan to make money...I say keep to what you know. people call here asking for all kinds of crazy stuff, doesnt mean Im just going to start doing it just to take their money

I thought I made it clear that we were going to go to training, maybe I didn't. We're definitely going to attend training before we do anything. I'm figuring we'll do a couple dozen practice before we do any we charge for. As for not doing it because we don't know how yet, that's just crazy. We know it's going to take a lot of practice but we have a lot of demand from retail customers and a 35 dealership base to work from, with the margins there's no reason not to make the investment.
