ANYONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ARMORCOAT?

Last year we decided to switch to Armorcoat 8 mil and it was a huge mistake. We had a tremendous amount of film with champagne bubbles. streaking, and improper dryout, especially on the tinted versions. The same installers would do many jobs that were fine...and then others were bad. Being a company that prides itself on customer service, we replaced thousands of sq. ft. of film for our customers. Bekeart pays a mere 65 cents a sq. ft. for labor and nothing for removal...where have you ever seen a tinter work for that on security film?

We have switched back to Madico 8-mil and never have a problem.

We're interested in knowing if anyone else has had similar problems with Armorcoat.

Yeah-warranty policies are bullshit! I had a small claim on a house and my distributor wanted me to spend all day for pennies....I told them it was their film-they could warranty it for pennies-they ended up giving me $3 a square-it wasnt worth it to me but I got my customer taken care of. :spit

You should have known something was up when you had Mike Byrd there trying to re-teach experienced tinters how to tint, so that they could "minimize" the champagne effect. That champagne effect is problematic only to Armor-Coat (to the best of my knowledge) And they know it! Its a problem with thier adhesive. I only know of one guy who has seemed to overcome the problem, by using almost no soap/surfactant. That would be TallScott, @ Carolina Window Films :shock

A much better title for this thread would be "Who HASN'T had problems with Armor-Coat" :eyebrows:eyebrows

I had the same problem when I used to work for a company up in Delray Beach, FL (close to you guys). Lots of bubles, and spots that I wouldnt able to describe, they look like dry but actually there was no water around it. The company decided to wait couple of weeks but that didnt work. I wasnt there when I became the chance for removal, but the company decided to switch to Madico Sunscape 8-mil instead, customer was very concerned about the product and did not want to pay the balance for the work. I dont know how did they work this out but to tell you the thruth, this was a problem with the film adhesive part. There were 2 more installers at the time and they had the same problems (Especially on tinted versions).

I'd say stick with Madico Sunscape products (LDG-35, 45) and/or Llumar Magnum (20,40 & 50) and clear on Madico only, and stay away from Armorcoat. I heard they are going down.

yea I have heard alot about armor coat having problems. Do yer guys wet the adhesive and the glass or just the glass?

Both, glass and film. :beer

if wetting both glass and film then it would more then likely be an adhesive problem. Also with having seasoned installers that know how to hang then that points you too the adhesive aswell.

So.....NOW you finally admit that it was the film, NOT the installer!!! Re-do's my asss! :thumb:lol2:shock: :thumb:shock:lol2:lol2 (anyone want the low-down on this fiasco, PM me. BUT while this will be MY experience only, I'd bet there are MANY other installers out there with the same experience!!!)

BTW, Ya'll still doing exterior apps for Turtle Glass in 30 mph winds? :beer:nope:lol2

It's a nightmare! Seems all I hang now is 8 mil. solar and I've tried every combanation of soap/water mixes, precut, slow pass, soaking both film and glass! Without fail I always have to redue windows!! Run like hell!! Haven't had a warranty issue, sounds like I don't want one!! I need to find a film with some love!! The last roll was back rolling great for a PS 8 mil. Hope it sticks!!

Get 'em Crrrrraaaaaiiiggggggg!!!!! (Key knows what I'm talking about!!!!)

The only way you're not gonna have that problem with Armorcoat is to use baby shampoo and distilled water. I don't know the science behind it, but I have seen it put to the test. A couple of years ago, I started working for this yuppie in Daytona. He had just gotten certified through Bekaert and was looking for sales/installions people. My rep highly recommended me as I was parting ways with another yuppie at the time and I started for this new guy. The first day, did a job with a couple and we were over an hour late because they had to stop at like 5 different places to find distilled water. I did my windows and they did theirs and we went home. The next day, I did sales calls with the owner, trying to teach him how to sell film. The day after that, I come in, and get my ass REAMED because of a multi-colored haze behind the film and was fired right after that. I went by the cusomers home that morning for a first hand view and that's all it was, was the soap! The windows that I did were the only ones that had the problem!!! I haven't used Armorcoat since and hopefully, will never have to again!!! :spit
