"Door Hangers" and the USPS (DIKHEAD mailman)

I went up Signal Mountain to a street that runs along the brow, alot of new houses there. I am driving along, putting hangers on the handles of the mail boxes on both sides of the street. I had put out about 50 or 60 hangers and had covered about 2 miles, when I passed the mail man as he was headed out of the developement. so I continue on about another mile, and head back out. As I was driving, I was admiring all the hangers, when I noticed that all of the hangers on the right side were GONE!!! The dickhead mailman had snatched 'em all off of that side as he delivered the mail!!!

Am I wrong in thinking that as long as I don't put them INSIDE the box it's legal? Anyone else had this problem? I mean Dude saw me and what I was doing and said nothing to me except good morning. :nope:nope:spit

:spit mabye he/she was putting them in the mailboxes as they delivered the mail, so they wouldn' blow away :lol2:nope

all of the mailboxes here in metro phx are a "centrally" located cluster of boxes similar to an apt complex, were not lucky enough to have boxes in front of the houses (like in the good ol days) :nope:nope

Are you the owner of the house?

Are you an employee of the USPS?

Then you CAN'T touch it.

I aint the owner of the house, nor an employee of USPS. Are you saying I can't put hangers on the doors either? :nope Developement not posted "No soliciting", No private property/No trespassing signs in the yard, :nope Just how do YOU put them out? Tape them to the curb? :spit

I have done this for many years with no probs before. I have known it's illegal to place anything INSIDE a mailbox, But I and all kinds of others have put ad material on the outside of them for years, I just never thought to check the legality of the exterior before..

"No part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing postage, including items or matter placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle. Any mailable matter not bearing postage and found as described above is subject to the same postage as would be paid if it were carried by mail."

The key here is "not bearing postage"

go with the door knob :nope
