Double heat shrinking?

Recommended Posts

I double cut roll ups most of the time and was wondering,

Is it possible to double shrink? I thought I read a comment from someone on here that they do: I don't understand how to avoid scratching the top piece, although I use a teflon card for shrinking. Also, does the bottom piece get shrunk properly? I've never tried so It sounds like it would not work. Maybe there's a trick?

Any help much appreciated. :beer

don't understand how to avoid scratching the top piece

simply put the first piece on with the liner down, then the next with the liner up, the opposite of what you normally do, you will then have the liner on the outside and you can sctarch it up :beer I have done it, it works pretty good on stuff that is not finger too bad. give it a shot and see what you can do with it.

this will work, but not on something that fingers bad like a caprice. you'll burn the top layer before you get the bottom shrunk.

Yes, MDOG is right. Liner down, Liner up and shrink away. Been doing it for probably 7 years. Works fine. One of the times I was tinting with my head in my ass, I shrank a back window with the liner down. It still layed on the inside just fine. It was just all the scratches from the hard card that wouldn't go away...... :beer:beer

I recently tried shrinking both layers and found the layer against the glass did not shrink as well as the outer layer, it was mishapen with fingers still left in it. The outer piece shaped nicely.

Didn't try it again, took time away to correct the other so found it best to shrink each individually after the double-cut.

one way I have found that will work better is put the two pieces of film together on a flatglass, squeege them together then put them on the vehicle window, they stick together more uniformly that way. I do know what your talking about the bottom piece not shrinking as well.

Now that's TOTW material there MDOG. One of the reasons I hate double cutting is because of the film slipping etc...

Never thought to do the double layer pre-squeegee.

this is my secret on windows the have ventvisors on them. if you squeege two pieces together beforehand on flatglass they will be stiffer and not want to droop over the plastic visor, it does make it easier, the tint actually stands up off the visor.

Make your tip 50 words or better and I bet TD slaps another TOTW medal on your roster.

I'm going to try that one tomorrow.

My deal has always been that about 80% of the time I overcut patterns to avoid light gaps but you have to slide the film back 'n forth to do it right and slippage was an issue for me. I think that your flatglass trick would solve that problem.

Wouldn't help me so much on mobile jobs but it'll help me in a fixed location.
