Film invetory storage?

I am looking at renovating the shop and need some ideas on storage of film boxes. Right now, I store all the highly active stuff below my main workbench and all the slow moving stuff high above the bench on a large shelf.

I am a short person, but I want to get away from storage under the bench. I share the shop with my hubby, so I am limited to one bay, and the storeroom isn't an option. I primarily stock 36" material for cars, but I have some 72", 60", 48", and 24" rolls.

Any thought or ideas would be helpful. What do you do?

If you have a wall to work with consider putting up individual 8" x 36" shelves, in sets of 3-4 high, maybe 3-4 columns spaced far enough apart (maybe 3') to handle 72" and be able to read the end label.

Kinda like what I will attempt below with the _ key:

___ ___ ___

___ ___ ___

___ ___ ___

The lower set can be 12" inches off the floor and the space between the next 2 sets can be 20"s, enough for 3 boxes. The whole thing would take up 5 1/2' high depending on how high you stack boxes on the top shelve and run 15' down the wall while only sticking out 8 or 9 inches from the wall.

Just one idea for 24-27 rolls of film :beer

At our shop right now we have 71 rolls of film of various lengths, the shortest being 36". We have a rack in the corner that is 2X4's on edge for the shelves. One on the wall and one 36" out from the wall. There is 12" between shelves(up and down). Pretty cheap and easy to build, holds alot of film, and you can see the ends of the boxes(so you know what you have). Hope that helps
