Plotter question

Recommended Posts

I had a friend of mine from Dallas call and quiz me about which plotter will cut PPF. I own 3 plotters but have never cut the stuff. He was asking about the cheap ones on ebay-yeah I know ...you get what you pay for-and I relayed that to him. What are you guys using to cut paint protection film? :thumb

Our plotter is a DGI 40" supplied or suggested by Solargard when we signed up for Computercut. It has four different settings designed to cut different things (hybrid,metallized,PPF,vinyl...). The blades can be changed depending on what you are cutting also. The four settings are adjusted by you for your personal use.

If your talking about the Master plotter, no it will not cut PPF. It can't cut film either. I think Signwarhouse is the cheapest you'll find. Roland, Summa and Graphtec are your best bet for cutting film and PPF.

I tried with someone who owns the Master, it will NOT cut anything but vinyl. Here's your winning argument...The programs used for the PPF patterns do not include the Master driver and you need the software to reconize the plotter and the Master is not included as far as I know. Companies that develop or distribute the software count on you buying their plotter or using a well known plotter like Roland. But in any case he sure will regret getting any plotter that isn't known for quality.

For a few hundred dollars more, he could get the Vinyl Express. Signwarehouse sells them on ebay but you get better service ordering direct and call them with the auction price and see if they match it but anyways, the Vinyl Express is the Graphtec, I called Graphtec and they do make this plotter for Signwarhouse. If he wants a good machine cheap it's the best I can suggest. :dunno

I am no expert, but, if it can cut at 100g with the proper blade I think it would be ok. Maybe not for high volume but it should be able to cut the stuff. From what I understand the correct blade angle is crucial for a proper cut. Also keeping the pattern in registration is a major issue.

Good luck.
