Hey I have a SummaSign D-seris plotter and it is Parallel or Serial connections, I just got a new laptop and noticed it had no serial or Parallel connections.

So I went out and got a Parallel to usb adaptor and I cant seem to get it to be reconized by my cutting program, im using sign lab 5.0. it just always says port unavailable when I try and change the ports and USB to parallel doesnt come up in the options, when I plug in the adptor it says its reconized as printer support and installed and ready to use but its just not working.. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Did you use the installation disk that came with the cable. I had the same problem with my new dell laptop, I used the installation CD and now the computer and all programs see it as a normal printer port on my Laptop.

I had the same problem with my laptop and adapter...I did a google search and found someone who had the same problem and who had posted a fix. It turned out to be really easy, although I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I'd recommend just search the web for the adapter you have and configuring..... If I find the post that helped me I'll post it here for you

you need to get a PC Card (PCMCIA) Parallel Port Card , runs from $80 to$100 usd. Here is a link for one of them:

I would recommend to get one at your local store and take your laptop with you so you can ask them about Laptop compatibility and test it on the spot with a regular parallel printer
