boarderless back glass (how to do this)

Recommended Posts

okay, ive come actorss a few back glasses that dont have a nice black bored as a guide to cut the film the right size and im not quite sure how to do this. especially on the cars that have the vinyl on the roofs, like a few old cadillacs. so whats the best way to do this and cut it perfectly so there aer no light gaps???

every situation and back glass types are different and require different approaches. Think it through and get some practice, and you will be just fine. And, think about investing in a paint pen.

I agree with 1PEECBARETTA...all execpt about the paint pen thing...maybe to touch up if you have a slight gap....maybe......but not to fill in the whole way around the glass.......the best thing is practice.....maybe take a f'ed up piece or old liner and put it on ithe inside like tinting the window...use it as a templet....trace it on your good piece.....then if the top is vinyl ....dontput it to the top edge....(almost to it)..shrink the top...lift it and shrink the bottom.....if you make it just slightly bigger than the templet....you can test fit it on the inside and then make any necessary trimining....take it out clean and install...lots of steps but a great finished job.....and isnt that what it is all about.....and on caddies with vinyl you will find that there is usually a ton of glass that covered by the top....do not cut thru the tint and the defroster lines.....maybe even use a ball point pen to make your final lines and take it out to your cutting glass(mind is hanging on a wall)....but I dont own a paint pen....its a cheaters tool to me.....

I agree with you, but my paint pen is a touch up tool instead of a cheater tool!

cut the sides to fit...leave plenty of film overhanging the top and bottom of the glass.

heat and pull the film..top and bottom to shrink...then cut out the final pattern.

It might take a little heat after install... :klingon Thats how I do it.

Hope I could help.
