cutting patterns

when making a pattern, I know you put the film on the outside of the glass and cut it to the window, but is the goal to make it an exact fit so when you apply it to the inside you barely have to cut it at all, or is it just a rough guideline so it's easier to work with then once you have it applied do you cut it to the right size?

No cutting once installing on inside. What I do is put it on the outside, line the bottom up and overlap on sides and lock film down, get a film marker (sharpie) and mark your sides, lift up bottom and roll down window then continue marking the top sides then your top edge will be exposed so you trim the top edge. Take film off and put on cutter board and trim sides just to the outside of your lines and your done. Well kindof, some windows are cut different like frameless but this should tell you the basic idea.
