Hey all.. Just found this forum this morning while I was looking for some advice on tinting curved windows..

I'v only done about 8 cars of my friends all for free, I'v gotten to where I can make the roll downs looks sweet, but I'v never got the hang of getting huge back glass, and really curved windows... I always tried to use a hair dryer to shrink rap but I guess isn't hot enough..

I bought a heatgun last night and today I gotta tint my boys eagle talon windows.. His back three... the back sides are extremly curved so before I start I wanna make sure imma do this right ;)

To heat gun your tint, I was thinkin I sould cut it a lil bigger then the window, stick it to the outside, use the heatgun tell it shrinks up against the window and forms the curve is that correct? Then stick it on the inside and tint as usual?

Also can I use the heatgun when I have it on the window and I'm about done squeegying it? thanks for any replys :thumb

that's about right. What kind of film are you using? You can only shrink to the factory edges. You shouldn't have to use the heat gun once it's on the inside, if you did a good job shrinking on the outside. Hope this helps.

were just using the cheapo stuff from walmart..

I'm not were near 'good' at tinting, but all my friends think I'm awsome, and hell what I charge (free) compaired to paying $180 in town for 5 windows I do a decent job ;)

just cut your film so it's inside the boarders or rubber around the windows. squegee across the middle and some up and down and you will see the fingers and then shrink them out and use your hard card to swipe them up or down to smooth them out. like wndowtint said once inside if everything weny well you'll be done if something like a small finger comes up use your heat gun on the outside of the window and heat up the finger and squegee it out.

on the rear on the talon you might want to do it in two pieces, if you want to try it in one good luck, let us know how it went, read to the right on heat shrinking for rear windows.

yes, tint has a "grain" to it..the factoey edges as mentioned so line up the factory edge to the bottom of the window with overlap, oversize cut, bring "fingers" evenly in size on top and bottom(not sides) , heat, trim, should be as good to go as you can be for your experience :thumb

hmm I'm kinda reading around and finding alot of words I dont know..

I'm guessing the fingers are what I call 'bastards' as they are.... and p1ss me off ;)

also I just planed on sticking the tint on the outside dry and heat shrinking.. should I soak the window with soapy water and apply it like I was tinting to the outside and shrink it?

might as well piece the backglass. that walmart type tint dont take to heat real well, its thin and it will crease and melt easily :booga there is a huge learning curve to doing backglasses compaired to roll ups on a car. practice, practice, practice, its the only real way. good luck.

p.s. my post was for your 1/4 windowsonly, like MDOG says, better off peicingyour back window in 2 or 3 peices.

we were gonna peice it in 2 peices since our rolls are to small.. however we were gonna do a roll across, then a lil like 6" wide peice on top..

however you think I should peice it out to left and right peices?

When doing a back glass in strips or pieces, they usually run horizontal. I would cut the larger piece in half to improve your success with installation given the fact that heat forming/shrinking is out of reach at this point. :thumb
