Need tint shop advice - AGAIN

I am looking to open an automotive tint shop in Houston, TX and need a little advice. If the first one is successful, I?ll probably look to open a few more shops in Houston, Dallas or Phoenix.

My concerns are:

1) Is the auto window tinting business a good one to be in right now? Do tint shops do well? Is market growing? What kind of profit margins can I expect?

2) Will the car manufacturers get more into tinting?

3) Is it easy to find good people for the installs? What are the challenges and pitfalls around the installs?

4) Who are the good film suppliers? I have researched SunTek, CP Films, Johnson, Sun Guard and Solar Gard, but would like to know your experience with product quality, value, durability and ease of installation.

I appreciate your help in advance.

Besides if you do your research TX is one of the worst places to open a tint shop (other than Florida).

Here is a question...do you tint :)

I am still working that out but was thinking either southwest/Sugarland or north near Woodlands. Before I choose location (and I am open to other markets), I want to make sure the overall dynamics are good.

Again... are you a window tinter?

In my opinion, if you are not an owner/operator you are going to struggle! Especially in the begining. It is hard to have a concept of a service industry unless you are hands on. You are also dead weight on the payroll.

these question make me think you know nothing at all about window tinting. sounds like you're wanting to jump into something you know nothing about. :)

I can tell you it's not as easy as it looks from the outside..takes a while to get going and I think Sugarland is taken already.

Save yourself alot of money and heartache-if he's been doing it for 10 years-then why does he need backing? If you arent gonna be involved in everyday operations-run like hell! :)
