My spouse says hey can you teach me to tint. (Please note years tinting) This would be the blind leading the deaf and blind but seeing if I said no I would also be saying good- bye to any parts of P?.. for the foreseeable future; soooo I thought, ok. My spouse is very tenacious she does not do anything half ass so this could be a good thing. The unfortunate thing is she also has an IQ of at least 140 (she has a bachelors in mathematics) so she has a tendency to jump to conclusions before one can finish their statement. (This can be very annoying) when one is attempting to explain the mundane aspects of a relatively simple but detailed set of events such as tinting.

So here we are, I have already finished an 06 Corolla, that is except for the back glass. As I am cleaning the back glass she notes the amount of water getting everywhere and insist I use something to cover the back seats, before I can say I have a drop cloth in tool kit number 2 she is back with a sheet spreading it everyway to cover the back seat. I am used to working alone so please note the line about saying goodbye to, this is about the only thing that kept me from biting her head off. Yes her intentions are noble but? things are not moving fast enough for her so she sets off to Wal_Mart or Bells or wherever.

Meanwhile I am having contamination issues. What the F? is going on! I am shrinking contaminants INTO the film. WTF rip off the film re-shrink install, contaminants everywhere. I do this three times finely get a half azz job and let it go, explaining to my neighbor I will re-due it after I have solved some issues. I washed cleaned and installed the back glass three times; each seeming to get worse. What in the wide wide world of sports is going on?

Spouse back, are you going to tint my car? Sure honey bring it in the shop.

Note: Brand-new car less than 2000 miles.

I start with the back glass. Contamination issues.

Reshrink the BF Contamination issues

Cut more film Re shrink the back glass still Contamination issues

Spouse walks up behind me startles me so I burn myself with the heat gun turn and Bite her head off sending her backing. (No part of P for me for awhile)

I am getting contamination during the heat shrinking process; it is hair. White hair to be exact and the only thing I know that has white hair is my wife?s favorite cat.

Remember the sheet from paragraph number 2. Her cat had laid on it for I don?t know how long but it has contaminated my entire shop. I have two HEEPA filter units running along with a standard AC unit plus a high-powered fan with a makeshift filter attached in attempts to remove the contaminates. .

So the moral of the story, just say no.

The sad part is I thing she really wants to learn but I have doubts if I can help her, maybe I?ll just pack her off to school

On a side Note: Mdogs Soap method really reduced the effects of the contaminates during heat shrinking. It seems the soap helped offset contaminants by surrounding them and softening there edges.

TTC?s double reverse roll also helped quit a bit with the reduction of the contaminates.

But alas, that damn sheet filled my shop up with hair. I am just going to continue running the filters, mop, mop again and use a swifter on the walls. :linedrink:linedrink

leave it up to the smart ones to screw things up...haha My g/f is 4 years younger than me, she is 21 and in her last year of college. Shes going straight through to get her doctorate because daddy is paying for it and for some reason loves school. I was trying to tint some windows the other day and she was in the garage trying to tell me how to tint. I was getting so annoyed but felt bed telling her to shut her face! so im applying the heat shrunk tint to the window, and as im just trying to get it to stay on the window she starts talking to me and and I creased the film. I was so P.O'd. Women are women.....what can ya do??? haha

what are you doing to clean the back glass...tell us your way of cleaning the back glass...and maybe we can help? :linedrink

Yeah, I wouldn't think even after cleaning it three times you would still be having problems. I mean hell, a K-9 unit can be tinted clean with a little extra care. :DD

I was fixing to start training wifee poo -she sits around the shop bored half the time anyway and spends any money it makes -so I figured what the heck - if I could get her to learn to do any of them or even prep we would be that much further ahead :DD

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply but I cannot post anything from my daytime computer and I am having issues with another one so that leaves only my plotter system that I can post from.

This Cat sheds an unbelievable amount of hair;(more than the other three combined) the only thing I have had that shed more was a 110 lb Akita. Anyway when the wife brought in the sheet she kind of flung it open, totally oblivious to what she had just done. I didn't realize it either, white sheet, white hair. Then the sheet gets placed inside the car. Subsequent trips in and out of the car must have just sent even more hair flying both in and out. I had on a white t-shirt so I'm not noticing anything. But this hair was flying around the shop and settling after I had cleaned. It was not enough that you would see it flying around but just enough to send contaminates everywhere. I realized I had an issue but I didn't realize just how bad it was until I noticed hair on part of the car I had just cleaned no more than three minutes before. That's when I went WTF!

I was using TTC double reverse roll technique (it generally makes back glass installation for me a snap)

The only thing I can think of is hair got between the release liner and film as I was spraying slip solution and then maybe some more before the film was rolled. I have a bad habit of raising the release liner to high because I only tack the film down by way of squeegeeing out slip solution from underneath and if the film moves I compensate by raising my arm higher. I may start using TG's Ts or some other method to anchor the film, this should enable me to remove some of this problem from the equation.

Please note: The contamination issues I have encountered before this have been mild. Also before my little helper arrived I had completed four doors without any problems.

But for the record....

My cleaning practices are:

Outside: Spray down the back glass along with the areas above and below. Clean with outside squeegee

Repeat with lint free towel

Repeat with outside squeegee

Use Mdog super soap method

Inside: If new car. Lightly clean with white scrubby

Flush then squeegee with inside only squeegee

Spray then clean with lint free towel making sure to swipe down all appropriate surroundings

Flush then squeegee

Install
