Hey guys,

Got a nice little commercial job but the customer wants to put a dark film on double pane glass. Question is the average window is measuring close to 40sqft each and customer wants to put a solar 15 which is really reflective to eliminate as much heat and glare as possible, I'm wondering if it's going to cause too much thermal stress on the window and crack it or else have seal failure down the road. Opinions on what you think may happen?

Check your film to glass chart for whichever film you're using.

There are other things we'd need to know that would be on the chart.

Things like low-e, frame construction, blinds, tempered, etc. etc. etc.

Check with Sungard, they should have a recommended film to glass guide.

I don't use any of the films from Sungard, but I have put Panorama's Slate 10 and MMM's NV15 on dual pane windows and haven't had any problems to date.

Absorption is bad............ ummkay. :DD I never new flat was so technical. I am learning slowly. those charts help out a bunch, but I hear absorption is a pretty key factor eh? :DD

That's definetly the major factor.

If it absorbs it then the window heats up.
