I have only tinted one window and I really liked it. I want to start tinting. I have a good idea of what kind of tools to get but I am kinda lost about what kind of tint to get. I am goin to get a roll of 20% to practice. I was looking at the Llumar Stealth tint. Is that a good kind. Is it hard to work with for a begginner? Is there a better brand to get or will whatever work? About how much should I pay for a roll? I am getting it from a guy that has an accessery shop and I don't want to pay like double what he payed for the roll. Thanks for any help.

the best advice I can give is learn the proper techniques from the start, book a training course and then practise big time for at least 6 months before you go near anyones car.

13 years down the line and we are still learning, its all down to practice and ability to do a GOOD job as opposed to thinking its easy cos you had a go at it.

good luck :DD

depending on where you are 20% is illegal. llumar is a good film. other good ones are solargard, suntek, madico, 3M, sungard, johnson......

they'll all be somewhat difficult at first. I prefer thicker films to thinner stuff JMO.

we don't discuss pricing on the board...it varies too much depending on location.

well I am goin to practice on my car and a couple of junk cars my friends have. I have a bunch of friends that tint and they all said they would help me get started. 20% is legal on SUV's here but not on cars. But it is just for practice. I don't plan on tinting anyone's car for money for a long time from now but I think it is a good trade to learn and there seems to be a lot of money in it if u have the time.

Anybody can have the time..it's the patience, practice , persistance and throwing away lots of tint ....that will EVENTUALLY bring in the $$$ :DD

Recenly, I attended the training coarse offered by CpFilms in VA..

I learned, as my instuctor put it, "just enough to be dangerous".

I have been practicing on friends cars for a month or two now, with mostly good results... but, I have wasted some (a lot), film in the process. Between what I learned at the training coarse and what I get from the good folks here on tintdude.com. Practice, practice, practice, it will take as much time as you got, to get good, because you're always learning. Although, if you are seriously considering becoming a window tinter it's worth the time and money to waste the schools film for a week learning the tricks of the trade.
