Cop education

spent 1.5 hrs. with a Spokane Valley city cop today. Tinted his F-150 undercover patrol truck and discussed tint laws. He didn't know much. I had to explain it all. He got kinda pissed when I told him he didn't understand the law at all. :thumb

All the Valley city cops we're given meters yesterday. 24 hrs. later.....27 tint tickets issued. :dunno Don't know how many are legit since they don't seem to know the law. :lol2

After schooling him he called the sargent to schedule a meeting to school other officers.

Very cool get together though. :hmmm

The law is 35% +/- 3%..... minimum 24% VLT to account for factory glazing. 23% = ticket....+/- 3% margin of error for meters = no tickets issued unless it meters at 20% or lower.

I was thanked over and over again for educating him and others.

:gasp

BTDT!!

Dont'cha just love it when they come your shop asking for limo and when you explain that its illegal, they say, "its ok, Im a cop"I've never heard of an LEO exemption in any law, any state. :dunno

never met a cop yet that actually knows the law. actually, nearly every cop I've spoken too were dead wrong on nearly every aspect.

my best friend is a cop, and you can bet he knows the law to a "T". :poke been a cop for 13 years,, and never once issued a ticket for it. :gasp

BUT, he has used it for reasons to pull people over. I could sit here all night typing the stuff he's gotten by pulling people over for their tint. two things he's proud of--2.4 million dollars in cash on one stop, and another was 2 kilos of coke. :gasp

the money was in a benz. he pulled them over because the two back doors were darker than 35%. (very common in texas) those of you here in texas who tint the back doors of cars darker might want to stop. :poke

speaking of---you guys who do that do realize you can be sued by other shops who tint legally right? it's called UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICES.

:coffee I've had my eye on a couple shops for a while now. :lol

oh no, that's a good way to look at it, but I've never known of an actual tint shop whos been busted for illegal tinting, from another shop or from a customer for example, I get cops coming in here, they all know the laws, when I mention to them, they all know for sure! I guess in california we get it hard...... :coffee

:poke I get tired of explaining the law and telling customers who have asked a cop for advice, "the cop said that I could have 05% on the back of my civic" :poke that a cop is not a lawyer, his job is to enforce the law not inturput it. :lol:coffee

I get a lot of the cop's dog cars in here for tint. They are the most uncomfortable rides to work in, poor dogs have to be on a stainless steel rear seat. They ask for 5% to keep the dogs cool in the back. We have never discussed the law, and how they are breaking it with these cars.

Same when I tint their personal cars, they don't even ask me what the law is. When I point it out to them on my sample board, they typically ask for more.

When our local police got their tint meters-june 2000-Front page news! They ran an ad on the front page of the paper-pictured a cop metering a glass-Headline read-HPD To Begin Ticketing Cars With Window Tint June 1-- We had call after call-people saying they had gotten their windows tinted and they didnt realize it was illegal!! Unless you read the whole article-thats the impression it gave! Slowed our business a little and caused a whole lot of explaining of the law!Now that they have them they use them-say what you want TTS-you cant get away with illegal tint in Rusk County Texas! Not for long anyway! ss
