Guest NoTint
I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. I don't know what the previous ownwer did to it, but somehow they managed to mess-up 6 of the rear defroster grids. I repaired them with Permatex conductive paint and now they work fine. Question: I'm guessing the stuff probably won't adhere that well over time and/or glass cleanings. I plan on having my windows tiinted (at a shop),... is the grid repair going to flake off when the installer gives the glass a proper cleaning? Anyway of "sealing" the stuff down so it adheres better? (I know the factory grid is silk screened and then baked on). FWIW, I plan on having a dark privacy tint applied to the back so is the defroster not working a moot point anyways?
Guest thetintshop
moot means the point IS debateable. in other words, you used it bassackwards. what you meant was "it's NOT a moot point". don't believe me? look it up.
Guest tint rookie
I would want the defrosters to work, as if your putting dark film on. at night visibility will be minimal. throw some frost on there, even less visibilty. as for the repair. a good shop will point it out when you bring it in and try to clean without redamaging them. unless your repair is perfectly level with the factory defroster lines it will raise the film leaving six defroster puckers (bubbles around em). if it were my vehicle. id weigh out the cost difference of the cheap repair vs. just replacing the glass from a wrecking yard. (im cheap too, I just dont wanna look it)
Guest thetintshop
to answer your question---does it really matter? the advantages of having film FAR outweigh the advantages of a defroster. defrosters are, in my opinion, the absolute dumbest thing ever put on a car. I mean come on, how lazy are people that they can't get back there and wipe the glass off if it's fogged up? just more crap a manufacturer can stick on a car to charge the consumer out the azz for.
