Guest metint
When I teach install classes I always do a review at the end of the day. I ask each participant to tell everyone one thing new they learned today and then I elaborate off their response. This class turned on me the other day before I could even get started and asked 'me' what I learned today. Funny thing is I was researching the answer to a sales rep's question called in earlier and when I received the answer it was something new to me, too. So I shared it with the class. Of course they all looked dumbfounded over the technical aspect of it. The short of it: UV absorbers do not protect some dyes in film products. Don't know why I believed they did, but have learned otherwise. Why don't UV absorbers protect some dyes? It is bacause they are mixed in with the dye rather than being in front of them. UV absorbers in the mounting adhesive helps, but still does not protect some colors. This is the basis for film turning purple. The 40% rule UV accounts for in the pie chart is very generic. Testing has shown that UV absorbers protect some dyes from a distance (e.g. film on glass with chair a small distance away). Film's UV absorbers work very well on some colors and fabrics and not so well on different colors of the same fabric. UV absorbers work by turning UV into other forms of energy, mainly heat... Quote from the boss: In reality every fabric, wood, or finish is different and susceptible to fading at different rates dependent on what wavelengths it is absorbing the most and how susceptible the individual dyes are to UV degradation.? The question that started it all: Does LLuLLu's deco red, blue, green and yellow have UV absorbers? Yes, however they will not protect the color because they are mixed with the dye. Will placing UVshield or a clear film in front of the deco improve color life? Yes? However, having UV protection in front does not always translate into protection for all colors... Yes, this was the short of it!

I only learned that this past year metint @ a convention. I was under the assumption that all films protect against all fading. I didn't realize that certain colors in the spectrum weren't always protected, or certain dyes in carpeting, rugs, draperies.... etc. (vegetable based dyes I believe among others). The tech guy was a great wealth of info. Ya learn something new everyday!!
Guest metint
why mess around with us lower IQ dumbasse's [*]246454 Because I believe it best to give back what has been so freely given me...
