Is the car starting?

Hi there, thanks for replying.

Yes the engine starts, runs for about 2 seconds then shuts off. This repeats three(3) times..

Thanks again

According the information I have on that vehicle, it doesn't have an anti-theft security system, so NewYorkTinter is most likely correct.

There should be a seperate fuse, or fuses, to the remote-start unit underneath the dash. Depending on the brand of the unit, most will reset if you remove power from them. If you don't have a user's manual with the unit, try removing all power (by pulling all fuses) to the unit and try it again.

First, just because it's easy, try inserting the key into the ignition, in the off position, and try remote starting the vehicle.

Hi everyone, I tried starting the car w/remote while key was in the ignition. It started the car and stayed running, BUT... it sounded like it tried to start it again even though the engine was running!

I have yet to try pulling all the fuses... to relearn the tach. We have had a real cold spell and snow lately. As I have no garage I will try this asap, when I can. Thanks for being so helpful.

It sounds like you have two problems then. First, since the vehicle is starting and stays running with the key in the ignition, and not without the key in, it sounds as though you DO have an anti-theft system, and the bypass for that system is not working properly.

If it is 'double-starting', you have a programming problem with the tach learning, or, if the unit was installed 'tachless', maybe your alternator isn't charging enough at start-up. The tachless unit monitors battery voltage... when that voltage increases, I.e. the alternator starts charging the battery, the unit knows the car is running. If you have an external battery charger on it, or if the alternator isn't charging properly, you will have various starting problems.
