customers supplying there own alarm

I had 2 differant customers come in today wanting me to install a alarm they supplied, one was one of the POS bulldog remote starts and I said I wouldn't even do it, 2nd was a prestige (no prob) but he said he had a shop the would install it for $50 :thumbdown I said you better take to them :beer

we get a MINIMUM of 3 hours just to pull it in the bay... starts at 150... then 50 bucks an hour after that plus any parts... connectors, elect. tape, etc. :dunno and thats only IF I feel like installing whatever they have with them. :dunno

from looking at other installers at other locations, I see that often and see then end up charging more than if they would have bougt it in the first place. You end up doing more work and haveing missing parts when the customer brings in the kit.

Customer quick to say "yea everything you need is in the box". yea but what about the relay that you to unlock your doors, I have to charge you for that. :dunno

I used to be more forgiving to customers that wanted to supply their own parts... I have been screwed by manufacturers of cheap, crappy equipment too many times.

I just increase the labor rate so much for installation of parts supplied by the customer, they will spend less for the same results if they purchase the parts from me.
