Transmitter not working - what can I do?

I recently dropped my REMCON transmitter (learning unit - ltr-1), on a concrete floor. When trying to engage the alarm on the car (turn it on), it failed to secure the car.

I attempted to get the transmitter working , by using a phillips screw driver, and slowly turning the screw inside, left and right... without any drastic changes.. but nothing happened..

I took the transmitter back to the people who copied the original transmitter, and they attempted to get it working. The guy reported that the transmitter had dropped its code, and was not recoverable,

unless I had the original (alarm transmitter) .

The option suggested by the guy, was remove the whole alarm unit in the car, and replace

with a new unit.. ($600). He also tried to persuade me to disconnect the already installed alarm unit from the car. I told him, not to disconnect, and leave the alarm unit as installed..

The transmitter, armed/disarmed the car alarm, and locked/unlocked the central locking.

I took the car home, and was thinking of what to do.. When I got home, I thought I give it another go, and see if the transmitter worked.. WOW.. it worked first time.. Then I thought,, the guy, must have fixed it.. however he was trying to get me to pay $600, for a new unit..

anyway..

Now the transmitter will not communicate with the alarm at all..

I have 2 questions..

Should the transmitter, had dropped its code.. is there anyway, of seeing what code is being accepted by the alarm unit, in order to record a new one.. Surely there must be a device, that can get these codes..

Why can't the existing alarm unit, be re-programmed on a new code? Had my transmitter been stuffed, or even lost.. is my only option to get a new alarm unit installed..? Surely, it can be

re-programmed..?

Any help in diagnosing the above, would be helpful.. I will also get details on the alarm unit - to see if the unit can be re-programmed etc.

Thanks

Your remote is not working properly due to the adjustments made inside. Dropping it didnt help and may have jarred something to were it wouldnt work but its hard to say without seeing the remote or knowing if the light on the remote is working. That little screw sets the frequency the unit works off of. Just the slightest adjustment will throw it way off. Without more info on your system its hard to give you an answer. How old is the alarm? One way to restore the remote freq. is to hold down the arm button and make very slow and slight adjustment to the screw until the alarm recognizes the remote. This doesnt work on all units but may work on yours. Normally you would not want to touch any of those screw inside unless you know what they do and what your doing. You may want to find a different tech or shop as well. Installing a alarm on a common car should run no where near $600.00 dollars unless its a remote start with all the toys. You should be able to get a good quality alarm installed for around $250.00-$300.00 and even cheaper if you want just basic security. This may be a better option due to the avalability of parts and ease of programing on the newer units.
