Viper 791xv

I have the Viper 791xv installed in my 2004 jeep wrangler. The person I purchased it from performed the installation as he operated an alarm shop. Recently I have decided to add the 508d proximity sensor. I want to ensure that the shock duel sensor is always sensor 1 and that 508d is always flagged as sensor 2 on the led remote. Presently (without the 508d installed) the led issues a sensor 2 warns when the shock sensor is in warn and a sensor 2 alarm when fully triggered. I know this is wrong and believe that the wiring to the sensor is backwards. I do not see an extra wire (blue or green) hanging off the sensor side and the entire wire is wrapped in electrical tape (to appear neat). If I had the installation manual I would be able to work this out and fix what I believe to be a faulty install. Could someone please forward this manual to me (at mictrik@yahoo.com)? Also, any advice you may have would be appreciated.

PS. Though I have in my possession the 508d I will not attempt to install it until this issues is resolved.

The shock sensor plugs directly into the unit. There is no wrong way due to a one size one way plug. Zone 1 is always the door. The conventional way to wire the prox sensors on the dei units is to wire them into the shock sensor harness. All of the wire codes are on the back of the brain if your just looking for the inputs and outputs.

Thanks for the reply. What I have so far done is: I removed and unwrapped the shock sensor connector, then I compared it to a new one out of a box (went to an install place). Sure enough, they were slightly different. The standard harness has 4 wires, red (+), Black (-) Blue, Green (1st stage) and Blue (2nd Stage). On the sensor end of the harness the green wire is free, that is it extends from the connector but does not terminate. On the Brain side the green is looped over to the blue terminal; so they both share the connection.

My connector was straight through, no free green on the sensor side and no loop on the brain side. I modified the connector and just reinstalled it. The shock sensor seems to be performing as designed. I will test in the morning since it is very late and I do not wish to wake anyone up...LOL!

With regard to the 508D that I will install once I confirm that all is in order. I will connect the green and blue from the 508d together with the "free" green that comes off the shock sensor. I will find either a chassis or switched ground for the Black and I am not sure where I will connect the red. I know that many installers claim to install them "piggy backed" off the shock sensor but this is not a good idea. The 508d should have a more powerful power source as it could slightly overdrive the power source of the brain module when connected with the shock sensor. Any ideas on where to tap in for power would be welcome. I would also like to install a toggle switch that could deactivate the 508d. I can foresee many instances when I would wish to just have the shock sensor active.

Any ideas welcome, I have never installed any kind of alarm before but I am enjoying the learning process.

You can run the power and ground off of the shock sensor harness. I have been doing it for 10 years on the dei alarms without any problems. If you really want a more powerfull sorce than use the constant power on the alarm and the ground as well. Putting a switch on is no big deal and is usually a good idea. When you set the sensor set is a little less sensetive than you like becuase it will change when the climate changes. The best way is to set the warning the way you like but the full trigger to activate after you get to you elbow when putting your arm in. Do not set the sensor around floresent lights becuase the lights will effect the settings and be off when you get the car outside.

as a side note, the operation of the green wire is redundant... the blue works pre-warn and full trigger... a short pulse on the blue = warn away, a longer pulse = full trigger. :40 and :dunno to the piggy back.
