off topic.....just recently was on Suntek's site just to see what installers they listed Then I went to Xpel Now in the in past, I have gone to Xpels site and their dealer radius was much larger (as in listed install had much less other authorized dealers per mile radius) Both Suntek and Xpel for *PPF* seem to have much more installers per region these days.... Is it just me, or has the market shifted and they are allow more -dealer competition- within X miles

Off to check out MSDS tech sheets on film thickness, for my own Wiki... In the past, I've had Suntek. It was thinner than Xpel, it looked better. But it also tended to show rock nicks more... I presumed.assumed Xpel showed less rock nocks as it was a bit softer, and I always thought it was *thicker* than Suntek. I was told today by a Suntek shop (formerly Xpel shop), that Suntek is just as thick as the Xpel.....and it's their *adhesive* of the film that makes it more clearer than Xpel. It's not *thinner* than Xpel for the reason why it's clearer.

Greetings! I had a partial hood Xpel removed by our local expert. The Xpel was wrapped around the leading edge of the hood. No damage at all to visible paint on the hood, or the leading edge of the hood. The removal did, however, pull some paint from under the hood where the wrap was attached. It looked like it pulled the paint off the dark primer, not down to the metal. There were areas perhaps 1/4" by 1 inch where this occurred--kind of long ovals. It was easy to add touchup paint and it looks fine. (It is, again, under the hood). Waited a couple days and had Xpel replaced. My question/idea is this: I live in a heavy winter salt sta…

Hate to have my first post be a problem, but that's the case here. I'm a fan of PPF. Have had Suntek, 3M, and Xpel on various cars over the years. Even had an installation removed and replaced when I was not happy. I am not an installer, as you will soon see . . . My favorite installer did a great job on my new Jeep. But, as often the case, there was one or two very small air pockets (not fluid). I decided to pop one and push it down. Not the best idea for a rookie with strong OCD tendencies. Should have went back to the dealer, but it's a LONG drive . . . Anyway, I will admit that I not use the correct tool. I thought a brand new Exacto…

Hello, thanks for allowing me to join. I'm a retired auto technician/High School Automotive Instructor. Enjoyed working on cars all of my life. I have had and still have several nice cars (mostly Corvettes) and enjoy keepng them nice. I have a lift in my garage which helps with the install on lower areas of the vehicle. I have been tinkering with PPF film here and there on rock chip prone areas on my cars. I have been sucessful sometimes installing where it was acceptable to my liking, but never perfect. I have had to rip several off and start over. That doesn't bother me because I really want to master this. Education isn't free and if it means wasting film and time I…

Hey guys! 1 Year into PPFing (and plotting) and I can't figure out how to get my film to stop sliding left or right before plotting. I've changed ALL the pinch wheels, the teflon cut strip, and cleaned the metal rollers under the pinch wheels. I even cut my film off the roll so it's not pulling. Sometimes I can get it to go straight, but it takes me anywhere from 15m to 30m of fiddling with the film to achieve. Is that normal? Thanks

I've never had PPF done before and never had issues with the paint on the car looking bad. I usually park in the garage and have had Kia Casa White - Solid on my Sportage since 2015 and no noticeable issues with the paintwork. The new car is Glacier White - Solid I've been told that PPF is beneficial, but very few people I know have actually opted to get it for their cars. I've been told there are many benefits such as: No need to ever wax or use sealant after the coat is applied Stops the paint fading Makes cars super easy to wash Prevents Acid Etching from animal contaminants, hard water s…

Hey Guys, I am new to this forum and I was dwelling on this website for a couple of weeks! I currently do a lot of detailing work, mostly high-end detailing. I specialize in paint correction and ceramic coating vehicles. However, a lot of my clients want ppf done on their personal vehicles and so I am working with a mobile ppf specialist. In the near future, I would want to add this in to my arsenal due to the fact that the mobile ppf specialist is sometimes busy on the days I need cars filmed. My question is, is ppf profitable? How long does it really take to master ppf?

I am looking for a PPF pattern for the headlights of a 2008 BMW E71. I have just finished polishing the headlights after many trials (see here: https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/help-headlight-restoration-swirls-showing.1455750/). I must now install the PPF from a roll I ordered online. I thought it would be a piece of cake cutting this film while on the car, but it is not that easy and I would like to do a good job. If anyone has access to any pro software and feels charitable enough, could you please allow me to use the headlight template for this car? If you would be so kind I would really appreciate it immensely.

We have been detailing on the wholesale side for over 15 years and have 16 Dealerships we detail in. I have been asked to put together a dealer program for ppf and window tint. So, these new stores want to-do preloads of services, for example we would use XPEL dap and XPEL ultimate plus film. Preloads would be a wear and tear package at 6.65FT² and cost $38.43 to cut and interior trim package at 3.2 FT² and cost 24.62 to cut. I'm having a hard time coming up with pricing for the dealers so could I get some advice on what to charge. Or how you do dealer pricing. I have included pictures of the sample packages we would install. Thanks for your guys help in advance. …

My question is the typical "how much should i get paid". i understand there are multiple variables that come into play to answer that. ill try to give as much background as possible. i work at a chevy dealership but also cover a buick/gmc and cadillac store so almost all my cars are GM. im a one man army that does everything involved in an install. with that in mind i can do h-f-m-b in 4-6hrs from going to get the car to pulling it back out of the stall. roughly 1-2 hrs for h-f-m. ive been installing tint and ppf for 6 years. in those 6 years ive had maybe half a dozen or so comebacks on the ppf side. im in the kansas city area. the answer im looking for is the total amou…

Hey Folks, I'm starting up a mobile PPF business in the coming months and am looking for a little advice on the best products to start with and build around. I was thinking of starting with 3M clear bra, window tinting and ceramic coating. Any recommendations on the product to focus on and best product to use would be much appreciated. I do plan on getting a proper shop up and running in a year or so, but want to start as a mobile service. Thanks!

ACP Films is proud to introduce Stone guard Windsheild protective film. Our Windsheild Film is 7.2 Mil PPF on the bottom of the film. The top coat is a self healing, scratch resistant clear film. It’s a wet apply film with little to no heat shrinking required. Unlike other protective Windsheild films on the market. Our film is mendable and pliable to absorb impact from road hazards. Our film can be installed and applied under 30 minutes. Were starting this post to hear from other installers on there experience with windshield protection films.

Hearing that an auto OEM is going to use colored paint film instead of spray paint. Has anyone heard the same? Why don't more manufacturers do this? Film is more protective, durable, and environmentally friendly than spray.

Just took a 3 day PPF training course in Oct and last week I picked up new/used Graphtec FC8600-130 that was only used 6 times. Now I'm trying to figure out a cutting software out there that is good besides Xpel's DAP program. If you guys could please provide a feedback with brands and experience using that software it would be greatly appreciated.

Hearing of PPG developing a paint with entrotech to put entrotech's paint protection tech into the paint itself - has anyone else been hearing of this? Anyone aware of the quality? Could see it not being great and still needing PPF on top.

Hello everyone. I’ve won an auctions of a company’s assets after it unfortunately went into receivership, the plan was to just finish my project of covering my camper van in PPF but there is so much more PPF need. So I plan to sell it on or use it in other ways. Anyway that’s the back story, I have some pre cut PPF patterns that I could use some help with identifying. I think these are XPEL patterns, I believe there to be a BMW X5 or X6 front end, Aston Martin Vanquish S front end, GT4 rear end and that’s as far as I’ve got. Any help with identifying them would be gratefully received.

Does anyone know of any of the software out there that has a patterns for the door belt moldings or the big reveal moldings. I work for gm and all the trucks have all that chrome moldings ad we have decent amount of customers that for whatever reason want it in PPF. We are an xpel dealer and DAP does not have anything close. We started messing with making our own and at the moment we are just hand cutting the film so I was just looking if anyone knew of any other solutions to cut down on some time.

TL;DR - How do you go about convincing, or informing customers that come in with a specific brand in mind? So, this question is for those of you using lesser-known but similar if not better performing PPF brands like Hexis, FlexiShield, Opticle, and all the myriad of custom signature brands that everyone and their mother seem to make. Or to those who are good at marketing and selling a product I guess. I had a lead call me up this past week asking for a quote for a full-front PPF on their car. I proceeded to grab their info, and I told them I would email them a formal quote with pricing and other options. The last question on his mind was, "What br…

Hello everyone. Please could someone help? I’m looking for a pattern for a door mirror and a rear bumper top, preferably Xpel pattern. The vehicle I’m applying this to is a 2022 Volkswagen T6.1 California. I’ve gone round the houses trying to creating a template, scanning and cutting adjusting and cutting and it not going that well, so this brings me to (I hope) you lovely people for some help. If it helps I’m using Xpel ppf shipped from Xpel USA to UK. Also I’m cutting the ppf on my mrs Cricut machine (No laughing) so a file format of svg would be handy but I guess not essential, as I can convert the file type…

HI Guys, Just after some thoughts and opinions on 3M's newer 200 Series PPF. I did read that it got an updated top coating that is more hydrophobic but was wondering what's the real wold feel from the pros. How is this new film stacking up against Stek's DynoSheild or xPel Ultimate. I did have a chat to a local installer that(based on the raving review is one of the best) and he said that 3M are junk and recommended Opti-Coat PPF. In the same conversation he said the same thing about 3M's tint and said that Rayno make the best film. After this, I decided to node my head, agree and thank him for his valuable time. So what are eve…

For those familiar , what's your take on Windshield PPF The last time I was looking into this stuff, all the top brands had issues with curing time... Anyhow, I have a certain vehicle, that due to the angle of the glass, etc - it's just prone to chips/cracks. We have windshield on the insurance....you know how it goes. They say it doesn't affect your premium as it's a rider...but you end up getting surcharged eventually...

Hi. I have ppf in my f31 door jambs. There are some bubbles after 3 weeks since it was put on. I live in norway so temperature has probably been averaging around 7-8c for those 3 weeks, car is parked in cold well vented garage. I was thinking of popping the big ones with a insulin needle. But since im new to this, I'd rather ask people with more experience before I start doing anything. Does anyone think these will vaporate by themselves through summer or should I go ahead with the needle? Im not worried about air bubbles, but water bubbles and the fear of rustspots is what will keep me up at night... Thanks.
